At first glance Light Sculpture by ~cfigue20 almost looks like a luminescent piece of fruit. The marbles help to break up the light and combined with the curved wiring give it a really interesting texture and shape. ( Suggested by AddyKing and Featured by Thebuild )

I love that adorable scroll at the top! I also really like the unconventional shape. Very cute and pretty design. How did you get the marbles to stay on? Are they glued onto a wire mesh?

yes- I superglued round marbles to wire mesh. NOT effective... for a year they slowly began to fall...

How did you create the form? Did you build the marbles up around something?

I'd appreciate your answer. I'm faced with a similar problem (for a very different sculpture) for one of my art classes.

P.S. Really cool lamp!

to build the form i just hand bent the vertical aluminum wire. then i did 2 octagonal shapes, in aluminum wire, and glued them as the horizontal parts. then i cut chicken wire to fit the faces, and glued it to the wires. then i glued marbles to the chicken wire. ta-da! oh- and i bought a light bulb on a wire at home depot, made a little wire stand for it and stuck it inside.

only bad thing about this method is that it didn't last long- marbles started falling off within a few months.

When I saw the small thumb I thought there was a lot of slumping involved in this. To see it is made from marbles :wow:

A great idea and execution.

This is a lovely piece, but I do have one critical thing to point out. At the top of your lamp where the bars curl, it would be in your better interest to do something to the tips other than just leave them cut off. I've had a few metalsmithing classes and in every one I've ever attended, it has been said that unfinished bars look just like that - unfinished. To finish the round form, I might suggest sanding the edges until they too become round, almost bullet-like. Or maybe you could sand them into points? Either way, I hope you heed my suggestion now or maybe sometime in the future.
